Invitation to a CHEZA Benefit Concert for CODE's
Kilimanjaro Climb. Join us at the
Rainbow
Bistro located at 76 Murray Street in
the Byward Market on Tuesday, June 22 from 7:30
to 10:00 to enjoy the music of well-known local
band CHEZA. CHEZA was formed in 1993 by
singer-guitar player Paul Weber, and their music
is a blend of African styles with rock and folk
influences--a new world hybrid. This will be an
exciting live show, with CHEZA performing
original songs arranged and written by band
members, along with African-inspired folk music
and classic songs from Africa. CHEZA has been
together 17 years and travelled across Canada
playing at venues such as the Winnipeg Folk
Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Afrofest
in Toronto, and the Dawson City Music Festival.
In 1999 CHEZA was awarded the best World-Folk
Act by the readers of the Ottawa Xpress. CHEZA
has also performed at showcases for North by
Northeast and the Ontario Arts Council.
CHEZA has agreed to play this benefit concert in
order to support Suzanne Stump's fundraising
efforts for CODE's literacy work in Africa and
the Caribbean. Suzanne is the only Ottawa
climber in a team of thirteen climbers from
Vancouver and the Greater Toronto Area, who will
be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania during
the first two weeks in July, to raise funds for
CODE programming. For more information about the
climb, and to sponsor Suzanne Stump, you can go
to
this site.
Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased in advance
by contacting Suzanne Stump at suestump@sympatico.ca
or calling (613) 744-2058, or at the CODE Office
located at 321 Chapel Street. You can also
purchase them at the door.
